Proper spelling is overrated.

I don’t like the name. I don’t  know why. Maybe because it is too long or because Maggie starts with the first four letters of maggot. But I do like the word river in the name to remind us of where it is located.

The location does have some interesting ambiance so it has that going for it. Of course that was not enough in the past, they also have to make more good decisions than bad decisions to be successful in business.

It is a disadvantage not to have a large sign on busy Coffeen street to market the location. But even if they had access to a spot on that road front, the city in its infinite wisdom restricts such signs.

I would think that the foolish money was lost on that white elephant in the past and written off by the lenders. If that is the case and the new owners bought at a reasonable price then that will go a long way toward their success.

But the picture on Grahams blog did not captivate me. A gazillion beers on tap will make sure that the kegs are going to taste like piss by the time they are used up. Piss is kind of like what an in house brew beer would taste like, so maybe they are targeting those customers. If I was a bartender I would not want all those taps behind me from an ergonomics standpoint. I would not want everyone ogling my sweet ass as I poured those brews…I exercise to stay healthy not to be a piece of meat.

Lots of TVs right next to each other for a bar backdrop? I prefer mirrors and pretty lights and pretty bottles of spirits on shelves served by pretty girls. Which points to the biggest flub…no hot bartender chicks? Even fort pearl knows enough to put a tart behind the counter.

I had heard that a few times so I swung in on the bike. All I got to look at was the mayor's (not) smiling face.
Back to Maggies: RJ is a super nice guy who also owns part of the hardware biz in Chaumont. I hope he does well there. Will be stopping in to lend some support soon.

So is this the place that the city owns the deck. Is the owner the same RJ from the Neighbors of Watertown. Any grant money involved.

One and the same guy - knowing RJ and his business ventures, I'm sure any $ received was on the up-and-up.  What's your point?

I don't know about the restaurant (yet), but I know the Lab mix the place is named after is one super-big schweetie.  Wink
I wish RJ and his partner(s) the best of luck with this venture.

I went there and had a pulled pork sammich with slaw and fries.  Good sammich for a good price, about $13 with a drink.  My wife and I will be back.

so how's that contradiction soup you're chowing on??

also...lots of beer on tap = happy customers. if i know i can go in there and have a tucher or any other number of tapped imports...well...guess where i'm going...

also i don't care if the bartender is hot as long as she knows how to run the room
(break up a fight, keep things respectable) usually the hot ones are afraid of the crowd they're serving (whether they admit it or not)

I went on Sat. night with 3 other people and was very pleasantly surprised.  It was packed and the service was a bit slow, but when I tasted the food...I would have forgiven them anything!  It was fantastic.  The servings are not huge but certainly sufficient, and the prices were the best I've ever seen in a good restaurant in this area.  Total cost for 4 dinners with beverages was $64.00.

The bar downstairs looked nice and was quite busy.

I'm definitely going back again soon.

P.S.  I don't know the owner so I have no ulterior agenda.

went in for lunch today, it's nice to see the place open again. the bar is neat with the chalkboard thing (you can draw on the bar)
but down to the meal...i didn't take a picture of the ham club sammich i had but i did hear rumor that the chefs went to the CIA (culinary institute of America)
it looked like it was thrown together by the kid that washes the dishes. yes it was delicious but presentation is important. the fries were great and even the plates they use are high end style plates.

pretty much everything i looked at on the menu was 8.99$ (minus the appetizers and the steaks)

had 2 Franziskaner Hefe-Weiss biers at 4.50$ each.

will i go back? certainly...will it be soon? probably not.

The fries are good but they're from the freezer ( I asked ). The presentation wasn't memorable. I think the the pulled pork was $8.99 too.

Went to Maggies last night.

I wasn't feeling great so I got the big-big salad, which is fantastic and my fiance got the chicken wing dip, which is also fantastic.

Very good service, good beer choices... but they had the air conditioner on full blast... I felt like there should be meat hanging around the room it was that cold.

But it's slowly becoming one of my favorite places to go.

My Wife and I just got back from Maggies,  it was great. I had Chicken Bleu,The Wife had orange glazed chicken . The meals were great and hugh portions. The place was packed. If You haven't tried it yet,do yourself a favor and get over there. Great atmosphere and it is set up great. Downstairs and deck setup for partiers .Upstairs for dinners, third floor for private partys. They seem to be doing everything right. Wink

Me and my committed went last sunday to grab a bite to eat. Love the BIG BIG salad... more places should do that. Their french fries are Watertowns Best IMO. The Jalepeno Poppers are outstanding.

I am talking them into a new menu item. "Stuffed Jalepeno Peppers" they are a western New York tradition and they should be shared with other areas of the world.

Wanted to take the wife out for something new...maybe exciting.

Took a ride around the city on Labor Day Monday to see what was open and what was closed.

Wanted to go somewhere not for dinner, but for a few drinks and many types of finger foods.  I wanted to go somewhere and have a selection of mozerella sticks, chicken wings, mushrooms etc.

First choice was Colemans.  CLOSED .....WTF???  Shut down for a year and a half and close on a drinking day like today.....No use for you!!

Wound up at Maggies.  WOW

Wass greeted when we walked in by a nice hostess.  Asked us if we were there for dinner or drinks...told her both but wantes to be sat at the bar.

Bar is impressive..TV"S everywhere...32 beers on tap.  Didn't have mushrrooms...but ordered Thai spring rolls, chicken wings and, fried mozerella.  As we sat there drinking our first beer, a gentle man came along and asked us if it was our first time there to which we replied "yes".  Asked us to bring our drinks and follow him.  Took us out on their deck..AWESOME VIEWS!!! took us up to the second floor where they have more dining tables, carpeting nice all around!!  Then took us up on the new third floor...Holy Jumpin Jesus..leathe furniture, couches chairs all the way around..huge dancefloor and a conference room off to the end.

I can't believe how beautiful this building is!

For the older folks like me...if you want to go in their for an upbeat lunch or dinner, request to be seated on the second floor!

If you want to dance and have one hell of a good time, stay on the first floor.

If you really wanna go balls to the wall, all out...no excuses and have fun..go up to the third floor on Friday or Saturday night

This place is a lot of fun!!!  But...it depends on what you're looking for.  Weekdays are pretty laid back..still upbeat..fun!  If you want to have a nice dinner go to second floor.  They have an elevator their!!! .  Bathrooms on all floors!!

Building is beautiful...Service there is fun and upbeat!  Prices aren't that bad.  Paid 3.50 a bottle for Coors light...Most appetizers around 8:00.  Looked over their whole menu...nice selection...prices are not out of line

Local people..trying to do the best they can.  LIKED THE PLACE A LOT!!!!  I will be back!!

THANK you for the time you spent with us today!!  THANK YOU for memorial Labor Day!!!  THANK YOU COLEMAN's for being closed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some friends and I went to check out Coleman's on Sunday also, and were very surprised to find them closed.  We also ended up at Maggie's, where we found 50 cent draft specials and a very fun and friendly bartender!

They just need to chill their draft glasses!
