Coffee cuts chance of irregular heartbeat

A study of 130,054 adults found that people who drank four cups or more of coffee daily had an 18 percent lower risk of being hospitalized for irregular heartbeats and other heart- rhythm conditions than noncoffee drinkers, researchers at the health system Kaiser Permanente said yesterday.

The risk of hospitalization was 7 percent lower for people who drank one to three cups of coffee daily, the researchers said.

YAY.  Everytime they study coffee they look for why it's bad for you but only seem to find good stuff.  The one thing I'd always believed was that there was a slight risk of irregular heartbeat.  I'm happy to be wrong!

Coffee May Cut Risk of Prostate Cancer

Coffee may help prevent cirrhosis of the liver

There's even some evidence that coffee may help prevent Type 2 diabetes.

So we can keep drinking coffee with a clean conscience!   Grin

Well according to some on this board, this study won't matter. One week it's good for you,  next week coffee will be bad for you.

Sooo... add 25 1/2 sugars and be merry Smiley Life is short ya know.

I can't live without coffee myself.  So I'll take any good reason to keep it Smiley

It cuts the chances of other types of ~ahem~ irregularity, too.  This bonus cannot be understated.

Yes - and we order from shoffee.com.  If you order more than $60 you get free shipping.  More than $80 and you get a free sampler of 12 k-cups.

We use the yellow label, Coffee People "Organic".  It's very bold but not strong.  And the Green Mountain extra bold decaf - veddy, veddy good.

We also use in a lesser quantity their Kona blend which is pretty good.

Shoffee just came out with some brands in boxes of 50 rather than 24.

Waiting for an order right now, as a matter of fact.

I do enjoy a good cup of coffee and the best in my opinion is Paul de Lima.  Just wish they sold it in stores.

I've rediscovered the classic 8 O'clock original blend. My parents drank it years ago when I was a teenager but I, like a lot of people, put milk and sugar in it. I lost the cream/sugar after the ice storm and glad I did. I have a small mini grinder that I use now and buy the whole bean and grind mine every morning. Takes only 10 seconds, but what a difference; and it is low in acid so I don't have to buy the import blend anymore.
You might want to try some next time, I think you'll like it. They also have Columbian and some other blends.

YAHOO! My coffee is a healthy habit. A day without coffee is like a day without sunshine. Coffee talk is a daily ritual in our house. After dinner we brew up a pot, relax and discuss our day.

I think you're onto something Wiener.  Ever since I started using my Krups ProGrinder/Brewer (which I like better than my Cuisinart), the old classic 8 O'Clock original blend has become my absolute favorite.  I buy some of the really expensive rare specialty brews online, but 8 O'Clock is really just as good.  It must be something about it being freshly ground because the pre-ground version just doesn't cut it.

Also, investing in a really good coffee maker is a must.  It costs quite a bit more, but the difference in the coffee taste makes it well worth the added expense.

I hear you starryeyes.  It IS a healthy habit/ritual.  My sweetie and I have shared many a great conversation over a good cup of coffee. He is my cream, and I am his coffee -And when you pour us together, it is really something.  Wink

Now that I indulge in tea I don't drink as much coffee as I used to but when I do I grind my own beans, it just tastes fresher. I usually get them from someone up north who does his own roasting, if I run out of his stash 8 O'Clock is perfectly fine.

Has anyone tried these coffee beans?

Thanks WWR for the website.  Right now I'm doing most of my k-cup ordering from cheapercoffee.com, but they don't have a large assortment of flavored coffees to pick from.  Their prices aren't bad, though.  shofee.com looks like they have a good assortment and the prices aren't too bad.
